A group of people with disabilities have protested the allged grabbing of their plot by three private developers in Kericho town.
Last Thursday, business in Kericho town was briefly interrupted when the more than 50 protesters took to the streets.
They waved placards and twigs and appealed to Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu to intervene in the row.
The developers, Parkson Ltd, Industrial Supply Ltd and the Kipsigis Traders Ltd are accused to have colluded with some officials of the defunct Kericho Municipal council to grab the plots.
But one of the proprietors has vowed never to surrender even an inch of the plot.
He said he legally acquired it legally by paying huge amount of money and acqured its title deed. The alleged grabbed plots are located at the Kericho Rehabilitation Centre where the physically Challenged Persons train in various courses.
Plans were underway to put up structures established on the disputed plots.
The protesters hired motorcycles and went through the Stadium Road, Isaac Road, Tengecha Road, Temple Road and the Kericho-Kisumu highway.
They later converged at Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony’s office to seek audience with him. Chepkwony was out of office, attending a function at Kiptere Youth Polytechnic in Sigowet-Soin constituency.
Kericho chairman for the blind Richard Mutai, who was among the demonstrators displayed a revocation letter of the grabbed plots from Ministry of Lands and a Part Development Plan. He said the three developers have refused to surrender title deeds for the grabbed plots despite numerous requests for them to do so.
