Brief narrative

Padampur Resettlement, Chitwan (2003)

As part of an aggressive conservation paradigm, the administration of Royal Chitwan National Park executed a resettlement program to move people from villages inside the park boundaries. This drive displaced over 4,800 households—primarily from the indigenous Tharu and Bote communities—to buffer zones outside their ancestral lands. Studies later confirmed that this relocation resulted in long-term negative socioeconomic consequences, including the loss of traditional livelihoods and cultural erosion.
