| Brief narrative |
On 25 April, armed bandits reportedly attacked the community Yantumaki Town of Yantumaki ward A in Dan Musa local government area (LGA) of Katsina State. The attack affected 162 individuals and displaced 157 individuals to the community Dan Musa Town in Dan Musa ward A of Dan Musa LGA. As a result of the attack, 5 fatalities and 15 injuries were reported. On 26 April, clashes between herders and farmers were reported in the community of Opaha in Edikwu I ward of Apa LGA in Benue State. The clash affected 113 individuals, who were still within the community. As a result of the clashes, 17 fatalities and 9 injuries were reported. Following these events, DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff conducted rapid assessments to inform the humanitarian community and Government/partners, and to enable a targeted response. Flash reports utilise direct observation and a broad network of key informants to gather representative data and collect information on the number, profile, and immediate needs of affected populations. Nigeria’s north-central and north-west zones are afflicted with a multi-dimensional crisis. Long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups often result in attacks and banditry or hirabah. These attacks involve kidnapping and grand larceny along major highways by criminal groups. During the past years, the crisis accelerated and has resulted in widespread displacement across the north-central and north-western regions.
