About 200 Blue State Structures Shauri Moyo Demolished as Residents Decry to GOVT for Intervention.
DANCUN890, NOperaNews
About 200 blue states structures in Shauri Moyo, were demolished by a utility firm in the city as residents move to other areas due to an ongoing land dispute between the residents and a private developer that dates back to 2002, and is currently active in court.
Speaking to the mass media Kamukunji Member of Parliament Hassan, Governor Johnson sakaja, and the area legislator have asked the demolition team to stop the exercise.
Scores of city homeowners are counting major losses after the demolition of sections of their houses that stood on power line reserves.
The private auctioneer says the houses are among thousands of structures illegally erected on a 100km-stretch reserve known as wayleave, stretching 5,300km in the ward.
The private developer of the houses in Kamukunji residency on Thursday issued notices to the residents to demolish earmarked structures.
By Friday, about 200 structures had been brought down, with the auctioneer saying the operation would stretch from Shauri Moyo to Kamukunji substation until all illegal structures were removed.
At the residency, a 60 by 40 plot in the location goes for about Sh500,000, and most homeowners will now have to contend with houses whose designs have been altered as a result of the demolitions.
The residents have decried to the government to intervene and sue the private developer and the auctioneer for them to reclaim back the land saying the evictions were forcefully meant to evict them.
