Brief narrative |
On 6 April 2020, four women and their children were evicted from their rented flats in Pretoria (Sunnyside). The women are all asylum seekers from various African countries. They were evicted despite being up to date on their rental payments. The women were assisted by private attorneys who obtained an agreement from the lessor to take back occupation of their flats. This happened despite them having paid their rent in full for the month and a moratorium on evictions being in place under lockdown regulations. (Source: data from PILS hotline). | ||||||||||||
