The Regional Meeting for Civil Society on Sustainable Development 2025

12–13 April 2025, Beirut, Lebanon

Ahead of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), the Arab NGO Network for Development in collaboration with the members of the Regional Sustainable Development Platform (ATUC, CAWTAR, HIC-HLRN, ARFPD, ANDE, CAWTAR and TI) organized the Regional Meeting for Civil Society on Sustainable Development 2025. The Regional CSO Forum aims to set development priorities from a regional perspective, engage in discussions on progress, review national experiences, and amplify the region`s voice. It enables a platform for exchange among civil society actors unpacking multilateral challenges for achieving multilateral solutions and defining a rights-based and sustainable future as the better future. Furthermore, following the adoption of the Pact for the Future, it will serve as a platform to address overlooked priorities and concerns on sustainable development and multilateral governance reform.

The gathering considered broad themes of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development through the lens of human rights and international law, including:

1-Geopolitical Context: Multilateralism, Human Rights and Peace

2-Financing for Development

3-Inclusive Sustainable Development

4-Governance and Partnership

5-Climate Justice

The participants discussed these priorities amid the cross-cutting challenges of conflict, occupation and war within the current era of neocolonialism, the breakdown of multilateralism and the asymmetry of UN performance across the pillars of the UN Charter. They diagnosed these challenges and reaffirmed commitments to remedy these impediments and their consequences toward the sustainable development promised in the 2030 Agenda’s elusive goals.
